From Monica Khan & France Tantiado

Welcome to From the Gold Room — our new biweekly dispatch shaped by the momentum, people, and conversations that built the Bay Area creator community over the past year.

If you’ve been part of Bay Area Creator Economy (BACE), you’ll recognize the spirit behind this newsletter. BACE created a foundation — a sense of community, momentum, and shared ambition — that showed us what’s possible when creators, founders, platforms, and brand partners come together with intention.

Creator Gold is the next evolution of that spirit: a curated creator community and experience series founded by two Bay locals, built to bring the right people into the right rooms.

The name reflects what we believe in:

Gold as the standard: high-quality, elevated, intentional connection
Gold as California heritage: a modern take on the creative gold rush
Gold as abundance: a belief that there is room for everyone to win

Born from the roots of BACE, Creator Gold exists to create elevated spaces where conversations turn into collaboration and where creators and partners can build what’s next — together.

And as we prepare for our December 7th Holiday Gala, that mission feels more alive than ever. The energy, generosity, and cross-disciplinary creativity of the people coming together for that night are exactly why we built this community — and why this newsletter now exists as another way to stay connected.

Rooted in the Bay. Built for what’s next.

This week, we’ve been thinking about the difference between reach and resonance — and why the next wave of creators will win not by chasing volume, but by building trust.

🔍 THE GOLD FILE

Spotlight: AI for Social Good — November 21, San Francisco

Innovating for Impact: Inside the Women’s Vibe Coding Hackathon (Nov 21)

On Friday, November 21, San Francisco’s creator and builder community gathered for the first-ever Women’s Vibe Coding Hackathon, hosted by entrepreneur-creator Valerie Chapman. The energy in the room was unmistakable — 25 women builders forming teams, shipping AI prototypes in eight hours, and proving exactly why the Bay is becoming the epicenter for women in AI.

The event was judged by three standout women shaping the future of tech:

  • Avni Barman — Founder & CEO of GenShe (700K+ community members), building the next generation of women in entrepreneurship and tech.

  • Maddie Zhang — MIT engineer and Airbnb senior software engineer focused on accessible healthcare and accessible education.

  • Delia Lazarescu (Tech Unicorn) — Ex-Google engineer teaching the world to build with AI through TED, SAS Innovate, and global stages.

And co-hosted by Miss USA 2024, Alma Cooper.

🏆 Winning Team: FINNIE

Finnie is an AI-powered platform designed to help students navigate every financial aid opportunity available to them — not just FAFSA. It analyzes a student’s unique profile (strengths, interests, background, financial need) and instantly matches them with scholarships, grants, programs and institutional aid they’re eligible for.
The goal: democratize access to higher education and eliminate the complexity that disproportionately impacts first-generation and underserved students.

Meet the Builders Behind Finnie

Fatimah Hussain (UC Berkeley)
A builder focused on social consumer tech that strengthens community. Previously featured in The New York Times, Fatimah is passionate about using AI to close equity gaps — including access to affordability and essential services.

Chloe Hughes (Stanford)
A creator-builder blending data, design, and storytelling. Chloe specializes in creating intuitive tools that make complex systems — like financial aid — human, approachable, and empowering.

Elizabeth Fong (Stanford + Team USA)
Elizabeth builds AI that solves real-world institutional problems. Her recent work includes AI tools that help families navigate hospital bills and discover charity care programs — making opaque systems radically more accessible.

Katie Yoon (UC Berkeley)
A product-minded engineer focused on making information systems easier to understand and navigate. Katie’s work centers on turning confusion into clarity through clean, student-first design.

Why This Matters

Women currently use AI tools 25% less than men — and represent only 22% of the AI workforce. Events like this shift that trajectory. They create a pipeline of women not waiting for permission to build the future — but actively shaping it.

This wasn’t just a hackathon. It was a statement:
When women build, the solutions get smarter, more inclusive, and more human.

📈 CREATOR PULSE

Signals that matter this week (all from the last 1–2 weeks):

1️⃣ TikTok launches “AI slop” filter

TikTok quietly rolled out a new AI-filtering slider that lets users dial down (or fully block) AI-generated content in their feeds. It’s the platform’s first concrete response to growing creator and user frustration around “AI slop.” (Business Insider)

2️⃣ Slow Ventures backs creator-founded rebuildr

Slow Ventures’ Creator Fund just invested $1.1M in ReBuildr, built by creator-founder Tayla Cannon. The platform helps creators rebuild lost or hacked social accounts and has already gained traction with YouTube creators. (TechCrunch)

3️⃣ Creator ad spend projected to hit $37B in 2025

The IAB’s latest data shows creator marketing growing 4x faster than the broader media industry — cementing creator spend as a “must buy” category for brands. (IAB)

4️⃣ YouTube tests built-in direct messaging

After years of creator requests, YouTube is testing native DMs that allow creators to message viewers and collaborators directly inside the platform. (Tubefilter)

5️⃣ Hollywood rebalances 2026 content budgets

Hollywood’s content spend projections for 2026 show a shift toward fewer “tentpole” projects, more creator-led formats, and more calculated risk-taking. (The Hollywood Reporter)
